Devil Dog Martial Arts

I've always wanted to take a marital arts class, but life, adulting, parenting, finances, etc. prevented me from doing so. It also seemed as if, by not having taken any martial arts as a child/early adult, I had missed my boat. I heard about Devil Dog Martial Arts from a friend, and after finangling finances, time, etc., I decided to go for it. I took my first Kuntao class from Amonte, and my first MMA class from Greg the next day. They were both AMAZING classes! Both are very different styles of martial arts, but I was able to transition smoothly between the two classes due to the excellent coaching from both teachers. Both classes were small enough that I was able to start off as a complete beginner (in my 40s, mind you) and get the instruction I needed in order to feel like I knew enough about what I was doing to start off. I feel like I got SO MUCH out of just my first classes! Amonte and Greg both split their time beautifully between their experienced students and me. In both classes I was taught beginners forms, and then practiced them while the teachers worked with the more advanced students. Both teachers were great at breaking down the forms, making sure to correct any errors in arm placement etc, so that I was doing them correctly. They were also both really encouraging, detail-oriented, and chill. They both balanced "laid-back' with "serious about their marital art and work" impeccably! I am SO EXCITED that I found this place, and will definitely be a lifelong student here!

I've taken a few classes (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Taekwondo, and MMA) already and it's very enjoyable. Despite not having prior martial arts experience, I'm not discouraged by my lack of strength and skill because the teachers are very thoughtful, patient, they articulate directions well and are all very encouraging. I'm really having a blast and am looking forward to learning more!
